Trump’s Special Envoy in Israel and Russia: New Diplomatic Moves in the Complex Middle East Game
In the coming days, Donald Trump’s special representative for Middle East affairs, Steve Vittoff, is set to undertake significant diplomatic missions to the Middle East and Russia.
This development occurs amid escalating international tensions over the Gaza conflict and efforts by various parties to find pathways to peace.
During his visit to Jerusalem, he engaged in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding future steps to resolve the crisis, which has been further complicated by failed ceasefire negotiations last week.
The United States aims to deploy all diplomatic measures to reduce tensions, while Israel remains firm, insisting that hostilities will not cease until Hamas militants surrender and release over 50 hostages.
Meanwhile, several Western countries, including the UK, France, and Canada, announced intentions to recognize the Palestinian state by September, provoking a strong reaction from Jerusalem.
Sources indicate that last week, parties were close to agreement on a 60-day ceasefire and the release of about half of the hostages, but these plans fell apart due to Hamas's increasingly stringent demands.
The US and Israel withdrew their delegations from Doha in response.
Additionally, Vittoff plans to visit the Gaza Strip, particularly a humanitarian hub managed by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, funded by the US and Israel.
The main goal is to assess the humanitarian situation and find ways to aid the affected populations.
