Trump Comments on Russia’s Attack on Kyiv, Highlights Political Context of the Conflict
Former U.S.
President Donald Trump publicly responded to Russia’s missile strike on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, which occurred on the night of July 31.
In his statement, he expressed outrage at Moscow’s actions, calling them 'disgusting,' and pointed out that the responsibility for this aggression lies with current U.S.
President Joe Biden.
According to Trump, this war is 'Biden’s war,' and he considers himself personally uninvolved.
The former White House leader emphasized that Russia is on its own path, and its consequences are very sad for everyone involved, especially for the Russians and Ukrainians paying a high price daily.
"Many Russians are dying, and even more Ukrainians are sacrificing their lives every day," he noted.
Trump also mentioned that the United States is not actively involved in the war at this moment and, in his view, the country should not interfere further.
Additionally, he discussed the planned implementation of new sanctions against Russia after the 10-day restriction period that Moscow has already announced.
However, he expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of sanctions, suggesting they may not influence Putin’s decisions.
"We will impose sanctions, but I’m not sure they will change anything for Putin.
He is well-acquainted with these restrictions, and I know about them better than anyone.
I don’t know if they truly deter him, but we will do it anyway," Trump said.
He also highlighted that Europe is very outraged by the situation, and reiterated that the war should never have started, as its inception was an act of reckless and destructive aggression causing immense suffering and devastation.
Regarding the prospects for ending the conflict, Trump mentioned potential additional restrictions, including secondary sanctions on Russian oil sales and limits on Russia’s banking sector, asserting that the Kremlin is not interested in a quick resolution and reaffirming the unwavering stance of the U.S.
on this issue.
