The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, is actively preparing for an eagerly awaited visit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), scheduled to take place at the end of summer, specifically in late August.

This was announced by Ukraine's Prime Minister, Julia Sviridenko, who indicated that within a few weeks she is expected to meet with an IMF delegation to discuss further steps in cooperation and support for the country's economy amidst ongoing warfare.

Sviridenko revealed that her recent phone conversation with the IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, marked her first official contact since assuming her position, and she expressed gratitude for the support and condolences offered following yesterday's large-scale Russian missile attacks on Kyiv.

The Prime Minister also noted that Ukraine is currently working on the draft budget for 2026 and has intensified negotiations with international partners to ensure financial stability during wartime, along with advancing structural reforms.

She emphasized that in the coming months, Ukraine will likely discuss a new macro-financial support program with the IMF, which could pave the way for additional funding arrangements.

Furthermore, Sviridenko announced plans for Ukraine to deepen cooperation with the United States, including remote discussions with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to explore avenues for financial aid and expanded military collaboration.

This partnership may involve procurement of Patriot air defense systems and joint production of drones, significantly strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities during these challenging times.
