Zelensky Conducts First Phone Call with Poland’s Newly Elected President Karol Nawarocki in a Bid to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made his first direct contact with the newly elected President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawarocki, engaging in a crucial phone conversation that signifies a strategic step towards deepening the partnership between the two nations.
According to information from Nawarocki’s official spokesperson Rafal Leskiewicz, the initiative for this dialogue was prompted by Zelensky himself.
During the conversation, Zelensky warmly congratulated Nawarocki on his electoral victory and expressed hope for ongoing productive dialogue and closer cooperation.
A major part of the discussion focused on mutual support in countering Russia’s aggressive policies, which Nawarocki characterized as neo-imperial and colonial, led by Vladimir Putin.
He emphasized that Ukraine, fighting for its independence and territorial integrity, can count on Poland’s backing and support.
Another central topic was historical policy.
Nawarocki stated that he represents a voice advocating for a reassessment of unresolved historical issues, aiming to foster a shared understanding and future relations.
The elected president promised that historical matters would become a subject of further talks with Ukraine’s leadership, reflecting a desire for constructive dialogue.
Zelensky has not yet officially commented on the content of this call, but he previously congratulated Nawarocki through a public post in early June.
Nawarocki responded by expressing hope for continued partnership and emphasized the importance of resolving historical disputes to strengthen bilateral ties.
The inauguration of Nawarocki is scheduled for August 6, while outgoing President Andrzej Duda, who has already made a farewell visit to Ukraine, did so on June 28, signaling the significance of future diplomatic developments.
