The European Union's key representative, Ursula von der Leyen, recently commented on Ukraine's ongoing reforms, emphasizing the critical importance of strengthening the rule of law and combating corruption in the country.
She highlighted that the main requirement for Ukraine's leadership is a consistent and comprehensive fight against corruption, along with ensuring the independence of the judiciary.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently approved a law, formally confirming the independence of NABU and SAP, which received praise from the EU.
However, von der Leyen stressed that for Ukraine to achieve full EU accession, it must lay a solid foundation in the areas of rule of law and anti-corruption reforms.
According to her, these aspects are crucial for advancing Ukraine on the European path, and the EU will continue active support in this direction.
She also called on Ukrainian authorities to further implement reforms consistently, noting that without a stable legal system, European integration remains unlikely.
Recent events surrounding the law on the independence of anti-corruption agencies during the parliamentary vote sparked mass protests in Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities.
In response, Zelensky signed a new law, definitively restoring NABU and SAP to their independent status, a step essential for progressing toward European integration.
