Ukrainian Parliament Live Broadcast of Session on Restoring NANBU and SAP Specialized Agencies’ Independence
On a pivotal day in Ukraine’s fight against corruption, lawmakers took a significant step toward restoring the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
This move follows persistent demands from civil society and anti-corruption institutions for transparency in the process.
The session of the Verkhovna Rada, which discusses the bill aimed at reinstituting the independence of these agencies, will be broadcast live on the parliament’s official YouTube channel, allowing everyone to monitor the proceedings in real time.
According to Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, a parliamentarian from the Voice faction, the public’s demands have finally been heard.
“We see efforts and attempts to make the process open and transparent,” he stated.
He also mentioned that agreements have been reached with Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk concerning solutions to enable future live broadcasts.
This is a crucial first step toward reducing the long-standing transparency issues that have plagued the Verkhovna Rada in recent years.
Before the session began, a peaceful rally was held in Mariinsky Park in support of the bill aimed at restoring the independence of the anti-corruption agencies.
Several hundred citizens gathered near the Verkhovna Rada blocking, waving posters and calling on parliamentarians.
This event underscores the importance of public oversight and the Ukrainian people's desire to see independent and effective anti-corruption bodies in the government structure.
