Ukraine Receives Support from European Platform: Parliament Passes Crucial Anti-Corruption Legislation

Chas Pravdy - 31 July 2025 23:46

A historic development took place in Ukraine's parliament, marking a significant step forward in the fight against corruption and strengthening the country's anti-corruption infrastructure.
The co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Ukraine's monitoring, Damien Cottyé and Saara-Sofia Sirén, welcomed the recent adoption of a law concerning the restoration of independence for the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).
According to them, the swift approval of this important legislation indicates that the office of the president and the Verkhovna Rada have responded to the voice of the Ukrainian people, demonstrating Ukraine's commitment to align with European standards.
They expressed hope that this new law will serve as a catalyst for further development of Ukraine's anti-corruption system, including the timely appointment of a new head for the Bureau of Economic Security, a critical institution in economic security that should become operational without delays.
On July 31, the Verkhovna Rada supported, in both first reading and in full, the presidential bill No.
13533, aimed at resolving issues related to the independence of NABU and SAP.
The bill was soon signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It was also reported that the European Union has no plans to suspend financial support to Ukraine following the approval of this bill, indicating trust in the ongoing reforms.
All stakeholders are eagerly awaiting further steps toward Ukraine's integration into European structures, and initial positive results of these efforts offer hope for the country's future.
