US Senator Urges Accelerated Passage of Sanctions Bill Against Russia: Putin Doesn’t Deserve More Time
The urgent need to expedite the passage of the sanctions bill in the US Congress is emphasized by Senator Richard Blumenthal, who stated that the era of delay in confronting the Kremlin is over, and that Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader, does not deserve any additional opportunities to continue his aggressive policies.
According to him, today’s rapidly evolving international situation demands immediate action.
"I agree that we need to pass this bill as quickly as possible because Putin’s actions are reckless, and he does not deserve another chance.
Our sanctions should be stronger — and we need to demonstrate this to the world," Blumenthal said in a public broadcaster "Suspilne" interview.
The senator believes that the current political consensus in Congress is quite united — support for the bill has already been expressed by 85 senators, and with enough mobilization, the number of votes could reach 90 out of 100.
"Now is the time to act.
We must seize this moment to pass an important law and showcase unity between the administration and Congress in supporting Ukraine," he emphasized.
Blumenthal also pointed out that the sanctions imposed now could significantly prevent escalation of the war and compel Putin to reconsider his actions.
"This is a crucial step toward ending aggression, and only through joint efforts of the international community can we persuade Russia to honor its commitments and halt the active phase of the war," he added.
Amid these statements, recent decisions by US President Donald Trump regarding increased pressure on Russia have become another move to support Ukraine.
Specifically, Trump announced a 10-day deadline for Moscow to cease military activities against Ukraine, starting Tuesday, July 29.
This action is part of ongoing diplomatic and sanctions efforts aimed at pressuring Putin and his regime.
Ukrainian politicians and experts have responded positively to these initiatives.
President Zelensky welcomed the new deadline, and Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga called the position of the American president realistic and firm.
Experts emphasize that the swift adoption and implementation of tough US sanctions will be a key step toward peace in Ukraine, reducing regional tensions and preventing new military conflicts.
