Anti-Russian Protest in Geneva: Parliament Delegates Walk Out During Valentina Matviyenko’s Speech

Chas Pravdy - 30 July 2025 16:48

The history of international parliamentary meetings witnessed a striking example of Ukrainian lawmakers expressing their stance against Russian aggression.
During the conference of parliamentary speakers in Geneva, where Russian representative Valentina Matviyenko was delivering her speech, dozens of delegates suddenly exited the hall in a gesture of protest.
A video capturing this unexpected protest was posted on Facebook by Ukrainian Parliament Vice-Speaker Olena Kondratyuk.
The footage shows delegates leaving the room while the speaker from Russia was speaking, leaving the audience in a tense atmosphere.
However, it remains unclear who exactly left and who stayed inside.
Olena Kondratyuk emphasized that this demonstrative act is a sign of solidarity and support for Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.
“I am proud of all our partners and colleagues! This is a clear and unequivocal protest against the aggressor, demonstrating support for the Ukrainian people,” she stated. This act of protest was a response to Valentina Matviyenko’s speech, as Ukrainian Foreign Ministry officials have previously pointed out that her participation in international events is unacceptable due to her open support of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Ukrainian diplomats urge the international community to condemn her behavior.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues working toward ensuring that Matviyenko is held accountable under international law in The Hague, where her possible involvement in crimes of aggression by Russia will be examined. Ukrainian diplomatic agencies remain committed to demanding justice for Russia’s aggression, and this incident further exemplifies the moral and political opposition to Russia’s interference in Ukraine’s internal affairs and international relations.
