Zelensky Announces New Measures to Support Ukrainian Military and Strengthen Defense Capabilities

Chas Pravdy - 29 July 2025 21:41

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recently announced a series of significant initiatives aimed at bolstering the country's defense potential and supporting military personnel defending Ukraine's sovereignty on the front lines.
He revealed plans to make substantial adjustments to the national budget to provide financial assistance to families of fallen soldiers and those currently engaged in combat.
Furthermore, the head of state introduced an expanded program for contracts with young people aged 18 to 24 who want to acquire drone operation skills.
This program is expected to be promoted and supported soon by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.
An important innovation is the establishment of a new award called the 'Cross of Combat Merit,' intended to recognize soldiers who have shown courage and heroism in the field.
Zelensky emphasized that while this award holds symbolic importance, the government aims to assign it more tangible value so that servicemen feel genuine support from the state.
He added that the 'Cross of Combat Merit' will rank between the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Bohdan Khmelnytsky Order in the hierarchy of state awards.
Currently, 318 soldiers have been recognized with this medal.
In addition to domestic measures, Zelensky plans to appeal to European partners for assistance in funding salary increases for Ukrainian soldiers, with the goal of reducing recruitment shortages and motivating more volunteers to sign contracts and serve the nation.
