Verkhovna Rada may reinstate live broadcasts of sessions, proposed by MP Yurashishin
The Ukrainian parliament is considering an important initiative aimed at restoring live streaming of Verkhovna Rada sessions to enhance transparency and public engagement.
The proposal, introduced by MP Yaroslav Yurashishin, chair of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy, calls for the re-establishment of online broadcasts of plenary meetings which were previously accessible to Ukrainian citizens.
According to the draft law No.
1963027, broadcasts should be available on the main television channel and the official YouTube channel of the parliament, with exceptions permitted only during alerts or other emergency situations.
Advocates of this initiative emphasize that such measures are crucial for strengthening accountability of lawmakers and building trust among the public.
They demand that the broadcasts resume starting from the next session scheduled for July 31, during which the law on restoring the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office will be considered.
Public organizations and media outlets have urged the parliament to back this proposal, citing the importance of transparency in legislative proceedings to foster greater oversight and confidence in government actions.
