Sibiga Comments on Trump’s Shortening of Deadline for Putin: We Appreciate His Clarity and Strength in Diplomacy
With careful attention and deep concern for the evolving situation, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga expressed his views on the recent move by the United States — shortening the deadline for Russian leader Vladimir Putin to achieve peace in Ukraine.
According to the minister, this firm stance by the American administration demonstrates a realistic approach and a clear display of strength, which could pressure Russia to act more decisively and swiftly.
Details: The Ukrainian diplomat emphasized that Putin continues to reject all peace efforts and prolongs diplomatic negotiations by avoiding meetings and intensifying the war.
He noted that Russia will cease its relentless policies only when its economy is broken and military funding is halted.
“The United States, Europe, and the G7 have sufficient resources and capabilities to exert such pressure,” Sibiga stated.
The foreign minister highlighted the importance of synchronizing sanctions against Russia as much as possible.
He pointed out that it's time to consolidate efforts and implement a unified, powerful sanctions regime to increase the costs of the war for the aggressor.
Additionally, he mentioned that Ukraine has been working over recent weeks to align EU sanctions and to prevent loopholes that allow Russia to access strategic technologies.
Sibiga stressed that in the coming weeks, the coordination of sanctions among all partners will intensify to escalate the economic pressure on Russia.
He believes this approach will be effective once Moscow begins to feel the tangible consequences of its actions.
As a reminder, on July 28, U.S.
President Donald Trump announced his dissatisfaction with Putin's actions and promised to shorten the timetable — approximately 10–12 days — to find peace in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed this initiative and supported the U.S.
position.
