Fugitive Oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc Officially Offers Cooperation with Moldova for Extradition
In a surprising turn of events in Moldova's political and legal landscape, Vlad Plahotniuc, one of the country's most renowned and controversial oligarchs, has expressed his willingness to return to Moldova by officially submitting an extradition request to Greek judicial authorities.
This marks a significant shift in his status and stance, as he was previously considered a fugitive avoiding justice.
Reliable sources, including Vlad Rogac, his attorney, confirmed that Plahotniuc seeks to facilitate a swift and fair resolution of his legal matters within the framework of international law.
According to the application submitted to the relevant Greek courts, Plahotniuc expressed his consent to extradition and emphasized his readiness to utilize all legal means to support this process.
The lawyer stated that this step demonstrates transparency and a desire to cooperate with international law enforcement agencies to reach a final resolution.
This development comes against the backdrop of statements by Moldova's General Prosecutor's Office, which earlier denied Plahotniuc's consent to return to his homeland.
Notably, on July 22, Greek authorities detained Plahotniuc and former deputy Konstantin Tsutsu, highlighting active law enforcement efforts.
The Moldovan Ministry of Justice has already initiated the extradition process, and Greek authorities issued an arrest warrant for Plahotniuc during the review of Moldova's extradition request.
Additionally, there are reports that Russia has also officially requested his extradition from Greece, adding new complexity to the diplomatic scenario surrounding Vlad Plahotniuc.
