Russian Kremlin Outlines Its Vision for Future Relations with Ukraine After the War

Chas Pravdy - 27 July 2025 12:41

The Kremlin has made its first official statements regarding the prospects of developing bilateral relations with Ukraine once the military conflict concludes.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that at this stage, Moscow's primary goal is to 'stabilize the situation' and 'document the achievement of the objectives set before the military operations.' According to Peskov, the focus currently is not on establishing new relations but rather on summing up the results of current actions and aligning them with long-term goals.
He stated that Moscow aims to reach agreements with Ukraine through diplomatic and political means; however, he believes that the Ukrainian side is not yet prepared for constructive dialogue.
Peskov highlighted that resolving the conflict is a priority, but achieving consensus requires overcoming substantial diplomatic barriers, as Kyiv and Moscow hold differing visions of the future.
Earlier, the Russian representative noted that a summit between Ukraine and Russia's leaders before the end of summer is unlikely due to disagreements over the understanding of key documents, such as the memorandum and the concept of peaceful resolution, which currently have opposing interpretations.
Peskov stressed that success depends on persistent diplomatic effort and compromise, which can help bring Kyiv and Moscow closer together in the future.
