Polish Foreign Minister Insists on Restoring Military Support to Ukraine After Recent Russian Attacks

Chas Pravdy - 25 July 2025 14:01

During a critical moment when Ukrainian cities were under threat from Russian missile strikes and drone attacks, Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski took proactive diplomatic steps. In a phone call with U.S. special envoy Kit Kelleogg, he unequivocally demanded the resumption of arms shipments and ammunition supplies to Ukraine, emphasizing the vital importance of such support in defending the Ukrainian nation. This conversation marked a response to the sudden halt by the United States in part of its military aid to Kyiv following attacks that took place on the night of July 4. A consular section of the Polish embassy in Kyiv was damaged during these strikes, escalating tensions. According to reports from The Telegraph, retired Lieutenant General Kelleogg was deeply impacted by Sikorski’s message regarding the attack on the embassy, seeing it as a possible escalation of the conflict. Furthermore, this call was the first significant step in a series of events that eventually influenced Donald Trump’s position on Ukraine. Just minutes after Sikorski’s call, Kelleogg contacted the U.S. President, who responded promptly amid Independence Day celebrations, and the two discussed the Ukrainian crisis. Kelleogg briefed Trump about recent Russian assaults and the fact that Poland’s NATO-aligned diplomatic mission had come under attack. This diplomatic and military communication line led to an agreement to possibly reinstate missile supplies, specifically Patriot air defense systems, to Ukraine. That night, Ukraine was subjected to a massive attack involving 11 missiles and over 500 drones. The U.S. response and diplomatic efforts were concentrated during this tense period, especially considering that these strikes occurred just hours after a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. It is also known that the American president was disappointed with his Russian counterpart’s refusal to cease missile attacks and the rejection of U.S. proposals for ceasefire, adding new layers of tension in diplomatic circles worldwide.
