Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza: EU Under Threat of Criticism for Inaction and Indifference

Chas Pravdy - 25 July 2025 11:50

International humanitarian organizations are openly criticizing the European Union for its insufficient efforts to assist residents of the Gaza Strip, who are now facing a humanitarian catastrophe.
Under prolonged Israeli blockade, which has led to mass hunger and an increasing death toll, world leaders and activists are raising concerns about the lack of decisive action from the EU.
According to humanitarian representatives, social media posts or rhetorical statements are insufficient to influence the dire situation; stronger measures such as sanctions and diplomatic pressure are needed.
Bushra Khalidi from Oxfam emphasized that words alone cannot feed the starving and called for the EU to take concrete steps.
Meanwhile, the EU announced plans to increase humanitarian shipments, negotiating with Israel to ease aid crossings.
Experts note that without intensified sanctions, stopping trade, and applying further leverage, prospects for change remain slim.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen: official reports state that over 113 people have died from starvation since the conflict began, including 81 children.
Medical and international organizations confirm that the population suffers from artificially induced mass hunger, which could have long-term consequences for health and development.
Additionally, Israel accused the UN of inability to organize effective aid distribution within the sector, while human rights advocates argue otherwise, citing blockade policies.
Calls are mounting worldwide for tougher measures, especially sanctions against Israel, to stop genocide and crimes against humanity.
World leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Kír Starmer express deep concern and condemn the Gaza situation, emphasizing the need for political solutions.
As numbers of refugees and victims increase, the crisis deepens, prompting global debates on responsibility and future scenarios.
