Zelensky Outlines Plans to Strengthen Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Infrastructure During Call with Merz
On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a significant phone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during which key issues regarding ongoing support and reforms in the fight against corruption were discussed.
Zelensky provided details about the status of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions, including the agreed-upon draft law designed to guarantee their independence and effectiveness.
He also proposed involving Germany in external expertise to ensure the bill's optimality and compliance with international standards.
Chancellor Merz responded with reassurance of Germany’s willingness to assist Ukraine in this endeavor.
The leaders further discussed cooperation with the European Union concerning the opening of the first negotiation cluster, as well as the military situation at the front and the need for additional funding to produce and purchase drones, particularly interceptors critical for Ukraine's defense.
Zelensky previously announced the approval of the draft law that ensures the independence of anti-corruption bodies, which is scheduled to be submitted to the parliament this coming Thursday.
G7 ambassadors welcomed Ukraine’s commitment to safeguard the independence of its anti-corruption agencies and offered their support.
