Zelensky Open to Talks with Putin: Willing to Meet ‘Tomorrow’ if Conditions Are Right

Chas Pravdy - 24 July 2025 07:26

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to demonstrate an openness to potential negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Ukrainian officials, the Ukrainian leader is prepared to meet at any moment — even as soon as ‘tomorrow’ — provided that the Russian side shows willingness to discuss ending the war.
This readiness was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Gegho Tikhiy after recent consultations in Istanbul.
He emphasized that the proposal for a personal meeting with Putin remains active and can be realized immediately if Russia initiates appropriate steps.
Tikhiy highlighted that if Putin expresses a desire to meet tomorrow, Zelensky will respond promptly and be ready for dialogue.
The importance of such a meeting is underscored by the fact that key decisions in Russia are made by a single individual, and therefore, for significant agreements on a ceasefire and other critical issues, the Russian leader must be directly involved.
Meanwhile, Tikhiy questioned the lack of response from the Kremlin regarding this initiative, asking why Moscow finds it so difficult to start a conversation and sign even preliminary accords.
The spokesperson pointedly noted that the issue should be addressed directly to Moscow, as their initiative is crucial to advancing negotiations.
