Zelensky Holds Major Meeting with Law Enforcement and Anti-Corruption Leaders: Steps Toward Greater Effectiveness and Cooperation

Chas Pravdy - 23 July 2025 12:19

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky recently convened an urgent meeting with top leaders of the country's key law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, including the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention, the State Bureau of Investigations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Prosecutor General. This gathering took place amid growing public discourse on trust in official institutions and the demand for tangible measures in combating corruption and ensuring transparency across government agencies. In his social media posts, Zelensky shared that during the meeting, participants expressed their positions frankly, discussed existing problems, and agreed on a joint course of action. The plan includes conducting a comprehensive working session next week to develop a coordinated action plan, with a final, joint roadmap expected within two weeks. This plan aims to outline specific steps needed to strengthen anti-corruption bodies, improve their coordination, resolve existing contradictions, and address threats that hinder justice and security for Ukrainian society. The president emphasized the importance of working exclusively constructively and thoroughly addressing all open issues to reduce tension and achieve tangible results. A photo showing all participants – security and law enforcement leaders – was published by Zelensky, highlighting the unity of purpose. In his speech, he stressed that cooperation within the team is the key to Ukraine’s success and that society has long awaited active and transparent actions from authorities to safeguard citizens' interests. Significantly, discussions also touched on recent legislative changes, notably the law signed on July 22nd, which limited the powers of anti-corruption institutions. This law has sparked considerable controversy and protests in Kyiv’s government district on Tuesday evening. Nevertheless, Zelensky’s official stance remains cautious, emphasizing the need for constructive work and mutual support across branches of power and civil society to move forward together.
