NABU and SAP Call for Collective Efforts to Strengthen Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Agencies

Chas Pravdy - 23 July 2025 22:31

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) have expressed their full support for the President’s initiative to develop a new legislative draft aimed at enhancing the independence and authority of Ukraine’s key anti-corruption bodies within the justice system.
In a joint statement published on social media, they emphasized their readiness to actively participate in discussions and preparations of laws that aim to eliminate existing legal risks and align with high standards of rule of law.
These measures are crucial for improving guarantees of justice and protecting the independence of anti-corruption institutions.
Representatives of NABU and SAP also highlighted the importance of maintaining the independence of detectives and prosecutors, as well as ensuring the irrevocability of court verdicts—fundamental for the effective investigation of corruption crimes and adherence to international standards.
They noted that safeguarding these mechanisms supports Ukraine’s international commitments.
Furthermore, to assist the country’s fight against Russian aggression, NABU and SAP urge international partners to continue comprehensive support for Ukraine, remaining open to dialogue and cooperation based on legal principles.
Meanwhile, protests have restarted in Kyiv and other cities against the recently adopted law, which opponents argue restricts the independence of anti-corruption agencies.
In response, the Ukrainian Parliament has announced a four-week recess until mid-August, fueling further debate and public tension.
