Kravchenko Views Protests Favorably, If Lawfully Conducted
Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko expressed his stance regarding the possibility of protests against the legislative proposal concerning reforms of the independent anti-corruption agencies, NABU and SAP.
He stated that if demonstrations occur without violating the law, he personally sees no obstacle to such actions.
Kravchenko emphasized that open debate and public protests are legitimate rights, but they must not contravene the legal framework.
This statement came amid the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada on July 22 of Draft Law No.
12414, which effectively places the independent anti-corruption bodies under the direct authority of the Prosecutor General, sparking outrage among activists and resulting in protests across multiple Ukrainian cities.
The Attorney General indicated that democracy entails freedom of speech and the right to protest, but also highlighted the importance of respecting legal boundaries to prevent violations and maintain stability in the country.
