International Foundation «Resurgence» Urges Repeal of Law Overhauling NABU and SAP, Highlighting Threat to Democratic Values
The international organization «Resurgence» has publicly expressed deep concern over the recently passed law that increases governmental control over anti-corruption agencies NABU and SAP by placing them under the jurisdiction of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
According to representatives of the foundation, this decision is not only a significant mistake but also a serious threat to the further development of democratic institutions in Ukraine.
They argue that the law, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada and signed by the president, effectively undermines the independence of key anti-corruption bodies, which are crucial in Ukraine's fight against corruption and in maintaining its European integration ambitions.
A source from the «Resurgence» foundation stressed that this law casts doubt on Ukraine’s future as a democratic state and could serve as a first step toward dismantling other essential institutions such as the judiciary and law enforcement agencies.
They emphasized that these changes push the country toward authoritarianism—an outcome unacceptable to the Ukrainian people, especially given the sacrifices made during the Revolution of Dignity.
Established in 1990 and dedicated to promoting an open and democratic society in Ukraine, «Resurgence» urges national leadership to restore the independence of these anti-corruption agencies to safeguard Ukraine’s democratic path and prevent the degradation of its institutions.
The foundation warns that any attempts to weaken democratic values could have devastating consequences for Ukraine’s future and its European aspirations.
