The Netherlands plans significant military support to Ukraine with Patriot systems and additional defense measures
According to Dutch Defense Minister Rutte Brekelmans, the Netherlands is preparing to make a substantial contribution to supplying Ukraine with modern Patriot air defense systems, along with providing additional military resources to enhance its defense capabilities.
During an online meeting with allied defense ministers, plans for delivering such systems were discussed, and details are currently being finalized.
The minister emphasized that the Netherlands will play its part in combating Russian aggression by not only supplying Patriot systems but also providing resources for drone countermeasures, radars, ammunition for F-16 fighter jets, and air defense systems like the I-HAWK.
He stressed the importance of strengthening Ukrainian defense, as Ukraine and its people serve as the frontline of security for all of Europe against Russian threats.
Brekelmans noted that Russia is escalating its air campaign of terror, attempting to break Ukraine's resilience, and while much has been achieved, more needs to be done.
The Netherlands has already supplied Ukraine with 24 F-16 fighters, artillery, anti-drone systems, and maritime vessels equipped with air defense capabilities.
Recently, the Dutch government announced a €300 million package for Ukraine's reconstruction and military strengthening in 2025 and 2026.
The ongoing international support and the pledge to enhance Ukraine’s military capabilities are viewed as critical in deterring Russian aggression and ensuring regional stability.
