Overlooked protests: why leading Ukrainian Telegram channels remain silent about anti-corruption protests against the NABU and SAP law
As protests swept through Ukrainian cities against the recent legislative amendments that effectively undermine the independence of key anti-corruption bodies such as the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), a large number of popular Telegram channels with millions of followers chose to remain silent.
Calls from citizens urging residents of Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Sumy to gather for mass protests were ignored.
Instead of providing coverage of these significant events, many of the leading news channels either did not publish any news updates or shared videos reinforcing their silence.
Notable resources like 'Trukha Ukraine,' 'All-Seeing Eye: Ukraine,' 'Real War,' 'Times of Ukraine: Ukrainian News,' and 'Insider UA' kept a low profile, raising questions about their independence and objectivity in covering critical societal issues.
Their quiet stance raises concerns about the role of media in contemporary Ukraine and their responsibility to inform the public accurately amid times of political upheaval.
