Norway and Germany intend to jointly fund Patriot missile system deliveries to Ukraine
Amid ongoing efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s military defenses, Norway, in collaboration with Germany, has announced plans to financially support the purchase of the advanced Patriot air defense system for the Ukrainian armed forces.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed this intention during an official meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.
According to the Norwegian leader, his country is eager to contribute to Ukraine’s security and plans to make this purchase in close cooperation with Germany.
However, he emphasized that the final decision hinges on guarantees of reimbursement from other stakeholders, particularly the United States, which is a key partner in supplying the Patriot missile systems.
Støre also reached out to the U.S.
administration for explanations regarding the progress of Patriot deliveries to Ukraine, expressing readiness to share part of the expenses once the conditions are met.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany and the U.S.
had agreed to supply Ukraine with five Patriot missile systems, marking a significant step in strengthening Ukrainian defense capabilities.
While the details of the agreement are still being finalized, sources suggest that the countries are moving towards formalizing this support, which will play a crucial role in Ukraine’s fight against aggression and help stabilize the region.
