NABU and SAP Urge Zelensky to Veto Law 12414, Which Dismantles Anti-Corruption Infrastructure
Ukraine's leading anti-corruption agencies, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), have urgently appealed to President Volodymyr Zelensky to exercise his veto power over the recently adopted Law No.
12414 by the Verkhovna Rada.
This legislation, passed in a rapid legislative process, has sparked widespread outrage among anti-corruption experts and civil society due to fears that it could undermine the independence of key law enforcement agencies.
Leaders of NABU and SAP – Semen Kryvoonos and Oleksandr Klymenko – publicly expressed their concerns regarding the potential destruction of the country's anti-corruption infrastructure.
They emphasized that the law effectively dismantles the anti-corruption system built in response to the Euromaidan movement and public demand for transparency and accountability at the highest levels of government.
"This is a destruction of everything that was created as a response to the societal demand for honesty and transparency in governance," Kryvoonos stated.
He added that parliamentary votes on this legislation were influenced by conflicts of interest.
Furthermore, SAP head Oleksandr Klymenko highlighted that responsibility for this legislative decision now rests with the deputies who supported it, and noted that the current political actions will be analyzed considering their impact on national stability and efforts to combat corruption.
