Massive Russian Night Attack on Ukraine’s Gas Infrastructure: Destruction and Acts of Terrorism
On the night of July 22, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine's gas infrastructure, resulting in significant damage and operational disruptions at critical facilities.
According to Serhiy Koretsky, CEO of Ukraine’s National Oil and Gas Company Naftogaz, dozens of drones targeted gas facilities across the country, causing extensive destruction.
Experts are currently working to mitigate the consequences and restore functionality.
Koretsky emphasized that the goal of these attacks is more political and psychological than military; they represent acts of terrorism aimed at intimidating Ukrainians and breaking their resolve.
He pointed out that Russia’s repeated strikes on gas extraction infrastructure are part of a strategy to weaken Ukraine, disrupt preparations for winter, and create hardships in gas supply during the cold months.
The head of Naftogaz stressed that such assaults on critical energy infrastructure have become a regular tactic in the ongoing struggle against Ukraine’s energy sector.
It is worth recalling that as winter approached last year, Ukraine lost approximately 40% of its gas production capacity due to a series of Russian missile strikes on the sector, which led to serious energy supply problems during the cold season.
