Kyiv Protest Rally: Citizens Rally Against New Law Affecting NABU and SAP

Chas Pravdy - 22 July 2025 19:37

In the capital city of Ukraine, Kyiv, preparations are underway for a significant protest aimed at expressing opposition to the recent legislative changes that threaten to undermine the independence of key anti-corruption institutions, namely the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). Participants are encouraged to gather in the city center near Ivan Franko Theater at 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening. According to veteran of the Russia-Ukraine war, Dmytro Koziatynskyi, this demonstration is a direct response to the adoption of a bill, which, in his view, erodes the foundations of anti-corruption efforts and threatens to revert the country back to the era of Yanukovych’s regime. He urged Ukrainians to make posters and cardboard signs criticizing the law and emphasized the urgency of action, as the petition process to the President is still ongoing but can be halted or ignored at any moment. Koziatynskyi pointed out that current governmental actions essentially pave the way for a return to corrupt leadership and urged political figures and citizens to demonstrate solidarity and oppose this unconstitutional move. Organizers recommend participants prepare to actively express their disapproval by any means necessary. The meeting at the Sofiivska Square near the theater is expected to become a focal point for protesters demanding the preservation of anti-corruption systems and calling on authorities to stop dismantling these crucial institutions.
