Deputy Prime Minister Kachka Assures EU of Ukraine’s Commitment to Independence of Anti-Corruption Bodies

Amid the adoption by Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada of a controversial law concerning the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Taras Kachka actively engaged in reassuring European partners that these legislative changes do not threaten the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions nor violate the country’s commitments under EU agreements.
In a conversation with EU Enlargement Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, Kachka emphasized that the decisions made by the parliament are not aimed at undermining the rule of law or the ongoing anti-corruption reforms.
He assured that all core functions of NABU and SAPO remain intact and unaffected.
Kachka reiterated Ukraine’s unwavering commitment to reform agendas and European standards, emphasizing that compromises on anti-corruption efforts are unacceptable.
Despite European concerns raised over Law №12414, which grants the Prosecutor General increased authority over anti-corruption bodies, the EU has so far indicated that it does not intend to suspend financial aid to Ukraine, keeping a close watch on the situation.
The G7 ambassadors also expressed concern over Ukrainian law enforcement actions directed at NABU, highlighting the importance of maintaining the independence of anti-corruption institutions for the success of ongoing reforms and continued international support.
