Deep Crisis in Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Bodies: The Pre-Election Battle for Democracy’s Future

Chas Pravdy - 22 July 2025 21:49

In modern Ukraine, tensions between the government and anti-corruption institutions have reached a critical point.
Swift raids on NABU and SAP, political pressure schemes, and sabotage by state structures amid wartime conditions set the stage for profound changes within Ukraine’s anti-corruption system.
President Zelensky, influenced by political and military interests, is actively attempting to diminish the independence of key institutions such as NABU, SAP, and VAKS, raising growing concerns among citizens and international partners.
This confrontation has become one of the most severe since Ukraine’s independence, with consequences that could determine the country’s trajectory towards democracy or authoritarianism.
Despite fierce protests from opposition forces and civil activists, the government seeks to implement a scenario that questions the principles of rule of law and independence of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies.
The Ukrainian people and the global community are increasingly worried that these processes may reduce Ukraine’s chances for European integration and a return to democratic values.
Meanwhile, Ukrainians continue fighting to maintain democracy and the rule of law because history shows that people remain the true pillars of power, not political manipulations or game mechanics.
