Zelensky Outlines Key Objectives for Upcoming Meeting with Russia in Istanbul

Chas Pravdy - 21 July 2025 17:20

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his recent address to Ukrainian diplomats, outlined three primary priorities that Kyiv insists must be discussed during the upcoming negotiations with the Russian delegation in Istanbul. According to him, these issues should form the core of the future talks and significantly influence their outcomes. Zelensky emphasized that effective negotiations can only be achieved at the leaders' level, as only then can progress be made on complex matters. He called on diplomats to increase awareness within their countries about the importance of this negotiation platform and to rally political support for Ukraine. Reports from Ukrainian, Turkish, and Russian media suggest that the third round of negotiations in Istanbul could take place as early as this week or at the beginning of next. The previous round, held on June 2, saw Russia presenting Ukraine with a memorandum containing demands Kyiv considers unacceptable. These talks are viewed as crucial for alleviating tensions and seeking a diplomatic solution to the ongoing crisis. Zelensky is firmly convinced of the importance of reaching agreements and stresses that real progress can only happen with high-level political engagement and honesty among participants.
