Ukraine Achieves Landmark Victory in International Arbitration: Secures $6.9 Billion and Prepares for Enforcement Measures
Ukraine has scored a significant victory in international arbitration proceedings, receiving favorable rulings from leading arbitral tribunals worldwide concerning Russia and its gas giant Gazprom.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the country now holds decisions mandating Moscow and Gazprom to pay a total of 6.9 billion US dollars.
These sums are more than mere figures; they serve as compelling proof of Russia’s legal responsibility for its actions and reaffirm the strength of international law.
In the coming weeks, Ukrainian diplomatic missions will receive instructions on how to implement these rulings, and within days, steps will be taken to officially enforce the collection of these funds.
The president emphasized that Ukraine is actively preparing enforceable mechanisms to ensure the actual transfer of these funds into the state’s accounts.
Furthermore, Zelensky held a meeting with Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Khorhetsky, during which they discussed preparations for the upcoming heating season and coordination with European partners and international financial institutions.
The goal is to strengthen the country’s energy security and ensure stable heat and power supplies amid wartime challenges.
These efforts form a crucial part of Ukraine’s strategic response to modern global threats and demonstrate the resilience of the Ukrainian people and their determination to restore economic stability and international standing.
