Chas Pravdy - 19 July 2025 20:19

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov has proposed holding negotiations with Russia next week. He emphasized Ukraine's strong readiness to meet at the highest level to discuss all issues necessary for establishing lasting peace. Zelensky highlighted that active work is ongoing regarding prisoner exchanges, the return of children, and stopping the violence, with an urgent need to increase the negotiation dynamics. The Ukrainian side is committed to reaching agreements that will guarantee a stable and enduring peace within the country. Amid these developments, positive signals have emerged from Russian officials. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia supports enhancing the negotiation process’s speed, indicating a possible readiness for dialogue. Previous meetings between Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2, laying a diplomatic foundation for further negotiations. Ukraine insists that a summit of leaders is crucial because only through high-level dialogue can a genuine peace be achieved—ending hostilities, freeing prisoners, and protecting children. Zelensky reaffirmed Ukraine’s openness to constructive dialogue and eagerly awaits new negotiations to find a fair and long-term resolution to the conflict.
