Zelensky Announces New Sanctions and Economic Measures Following National Security and Defense Council Reforms
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his daily address, emphasized the initial steps planned in the wake of reforms and updates to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. The head of state revealed that new sanctions packages aimed at countering external threats and maintaining internal stability would soon be approved. Additionally, he highlighted the intention to accelerate economic cooperation with international partners to encourage investments and strengthen the country's export potential. Zelensky shared that he had already discussed specific decisions with NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov, which are scheduled for approval in the coming days. He noted that sanctions are nearing final preparation stages, with their implementation expected shortly. Furthermore, there are plans to discuss economic initiatives with Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko, during which a series of important documents aimed at fostering Ukraine's economic resilience will be adopted. The president also stressed the importance of coordinated international sanctions efforts, particularly ensuring alignment with EU member states and other countries outside the bloc. The work on synchronizing sanctions measures is ongoing at a global level, and actions need to be swift and effective. He further highlighted cooperation with the United States, including talks with former President Donald Trump. Zelensky confirmed Ukraine's readiness to swiftly fulfill all agreements related to military supplies and weaponry, especially Ukrainian drones, which have already demonstrated their combat capability. Negotiations on several new weapon supply contracts are currently underway, and the development of interceptors is at an advanced stage. At the international level, support has been garnered from eight countries: Germany, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Finland, and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, France, Italy, and the Czech Republic declined participation due to increasing defense expenditures. In the context of these developments and the complex policy of Donald Trump regarding Ukraine, many experts analyze his motives in the article 'Trump Against Himself: Who Will Prevail — the 'Dominator' or the 'Genius of Deals'?',— notes journalist Oleg Shamsur.
