Zelensky Announces New Drone Interceptor Contracts and Strengthening Sanctions Policy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his daily address, emphasized the upcoming changes in the country's defense sector, including the announcement of additional contracts for the procurement of advanced drone interceptors. According to him, these agreements are expected to be signed as early as next week and are aimed at bolstering the nation’s air defense system, which is particularly crucial amidst ongoing hostilities. The leader also revealed that new sanctions measures are in the pipeline, to be approved by Ukraine's newly formed National Security and Defense Council (NSDC). Zelensky stated that the revamped NSDC is already actively working on these issues, with initial steps regarding international and domestic restrictions on the aggressor planned for the coming days. He highlighted that cooperation with international partners, especially the United States, demonstrates a high level of collaboration in defense matters. The president underscored that agreements with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding technology transfer and weapon supplies must be implemented as quickly as possible to ensure Ukraine’s necessary protection. Specifically, Ukraine is prepared to purchase and export Ukrainian technological weaponry, with drones playing a key role given their proven effectiveness in the ongoing war. During Saturday’s communication, Zelensky also reported having a meeting with NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov concerning the update of the council’s composition and further steps. Plans include swiftly initiating decisions related to sanctions and economic activation, particularly in international relations. Tomorrow, detailed announcements are scheduled in collaboration with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, who is already working on these initiatives. Recall that back in July, Zelensky noted that drone interceptors are showcasing their exceptional effectiveness in combat conditions. This underscores the strategic importance of these high-tech systems for Ukraine’s military and the country as a whole.
