Ukraine Experiences Price Surge in Greenhouse Tomatoes Due to Limited Supply
The Ukrainian market is witnessing a significant fluctuation in the prices of one of the most popular salad vegetables — greenhouse tomatoes.
According to analysts from the EastFruit project, this trend is driven by a limited supply of this produce, which has led to a noticeable increase in prices domestically.
The current situation is the result of weather conditions that have slowed down the ripening process in greenhouses, with several farms already ending their current season.
As a result, prices for greenhouse tomatoes have increased by approximately 14% over the past week, now ranging between 80 to 90 hryvnias per kilogram ($1.91-2.15).
Market players highlight that deliveries from local greenhouse farms are still quite limited and unstable, exacerbating the upward price movement.
Experts predict that prices will continue to rise if current sales speeds are maintained, as producers plan to escalate prices amid high demand and insufficient local supply.
Additionally, the ongoing price increase has made Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes about 22% more expensive than they were at the end of October 2024.
The situation with availability is expected to remain tense until the end of the season, possibly supplemented by increased imports of produce from abroad.
