IMF Plans New Visit to Kyiv to Discuss Ukraine’s Financial Assistance
The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, is scheduled to visit Kyiv to discuss a new loan package for Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg, this trip will follow Ukraine’s request for additional financial help after receiving the previous assistance of $15.6 billion.
The upcoming negotiations are expected to be complex, as the IMF requires guarantees from Ukraine’s international allies that they will start utilizing the frozen assets of Russia, a crucial condition for further cooperation.
Ukraine has significantly increased its financing needs forecast, now projecting a requirement of up to $65 billion through 2027, underscoring the importance of stable external financial support amid ongoing conflict.
During her last visit to Kyiv in February 2023, the IMF chief had already made a symbolic visit, reinforcing ongoing support for the Ukrainian government.
It is estimated that the new aid package might amount to around $8 billion, with negotiations planned to begin as early as November.
Additionally, the IMF has confirmed a projected real GDP growth of 2% for Ukraine in 2025 in its updated World Economic Outlook report, offering hope for economic stabilization amidst the war.
