Tax Authorities Detect Artificial Price Inflation of Backup Power Devices During Crisis
Following massive missile attacks that caused widespread electricity outages across Ukraine, citizens urgently sought ways to preserve energy and acquire backup power sources.
However, amidst this surge in demand, some vendors and wholesalers have begun drastically increasing prices for generators, power banks, and charging stations, raising concerns among tax officials.
Lesya Karnaukh, acting head of the State Tax Service, reports a sharp escalation in prices, sometimes by up to 30% within just one week, indicating speculative activities by some market participants.
Experts point out that the majority of these inflated prices are driven by wholesale suppliers who quickly responded to the increased retail demand.
This results in vulnerable consumers being forced to pay inflated prices during a critical time when electricity is unavailable.
The tax authorities are actively monitoring cases of illegal sales and unjustified price hikes to take appropriate action.
Lesya Karnaukh expresses hope that this price spike is temporary and urges Ukrainians to support each other and act with mutual respect during these challenging times.
