Price Surge in Ukraine: Cabbage Becomes More Expensive Due to Seasonal Factors and Strong Demand

Since the beginning of this week, consumers and traders in Ukraine have experienced a sharp increase in the prices of one of the most popular vegetables — white cabbage.
This phenomenon is driven by a combination of factors, primarily the end of the mid-season harvest and delays in selling late varieties of cabbage.
For several days, supply in the market has been dwindling, contributing to rising retail and wholesale prices.
Experts from the analytical project EastFruit report that this price increase is mainly due to limited supply and high demand, with prices jumping by as much as 27% compared to the end of last week.
Currently, the price range is between 7 and 16 UAH per kilogram, depending on the grade and purchase volume.
Farmers explain this dynamic by several causes: the incomplete harvesting of late varieties and a strong domestic demand.
It is noteworthy that, compared to the same period last year, prices for this vegetable have decreased by around 36%, which benefits consumers.
However, analysts do not rule out further price increases in the coming days, as late-season cabbage begins to enter the market en masse.
Experts anticipate that in the near future, prices may drop again due to the expected influx of late varieties, which will help stabilize the market and reduce prices.
Simultaneously, Ukraine has seen a significant decline in apple prices, indicating a transition to new seasonal pricing trends in the produce market.
