Ukraine’s Retail Market Shows Strong Growth and Expansion of New Stores

According to recent reports, Ukraine has experienced a remarkable increase in new retail outlets opened since the beginning of 2025 — exceeding one thousand five hundred stores across various segments.

By July of this year, the country was home to nearly 24,000 shops, positioning Ukraine's retail sector among the most dynamic and rapidly growing markets in Europe.

A study conducted by the Ukrainian Retailers Association reveals that in the first half of 2025, more than 1,056 new stores were launched, while only 326 were closed — indicating significant expansion and active development of retail networks.Currently, the largest concentration of stores is in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, with over 5,600 retail outlets.

No less active development is observed in the Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions, as well as Odesa and Kharkiv regions — each with over 1,000 stores.

Overall, approximately 23,800 retail points are operational across most regions of Ukraine, demonstrating sector stability and positive growth dynamics.In terms of market segments, the food retail sector accounts for about 21% of the total retail outlets in Ukraine, with a third of these located in the Kyiv region (1,592 stores).

The leading regions in terms of store numbers are Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk.

During the first six months of 2025, this segment added over 149 new shops despite closing 67, reflecting active investments and sector growth.Overall, as of June 2025, more than 5,100 grocery retail outlets were operating, indicating steady development and high competition within the domestic market, especially amid global economic challenges and ongoing reforms.

This growth confirms Ukraine's retail sector’s aspirations for further expansion and diversification to meet the increasing needs of Ukrainian consumers.
