Miss Universe Organizer Publicly Humiliates Miss Mexico: Controversy Sparks Outrage
The announcement of the Miss Universe contest scheduled to take place in Thailand unexpectedly turned into a high-profile scandal that stunned not only participants but also the wider public.
During the preparatory phase for the main event, the organizer exhibited highly unprofessional and inappropriate behavior that attracted widespread attention and criticism.
At the center of the conflict was Mexico’s representative, who was publicly reprimanded by the Thai Miss Universe director, Nawatt Itsaragrisil, during her presentation and speech.
He accused her of allegedly failing to fulfill promotional obligations, raising his voice and ordering her to be silent.
When she attempted to defend herself, security was called, and he threatened to disqualify anyone who supported her.
The incident quickly went viral on social media with millions of viewers watching live.
Several contestants, including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Teylievig of Denmark, walked out of the venue, expressing solidarity with Miss Mexico and condemning such misconduct.
They emphasized that any form of disrespect towards women and humiliation of their dignity is unacceptable, asserting that women in the modern world deserve respect and equality.
The video footage circulated widely, sparking outrage and raising questions about the professionalism and moral standards of the organizers and particularly Nawatt Itsaragrisil.
Later, Fatima Bosch, Miss Mexico, stated that the conduct of her official opponent was “disrespectful” and even insulting, describing the incident as a clear display of disrespect towards women.
Nawatt Itsaragrisil issued an apology on social media, claiming his words were incorrectly translated and that he merely pointed out that the contestant had damaged the competition.
However, this incident raised serious concerns about the professionalism and ethical standards of the Miss Universe organization.
MUO leadership promptly condemned the behavior and announced that relations with the involved official would be reconsidered, and his participation in future events might be suspended.
Rául Rocha, president of MUO, emphasized that such conduct contradicts the values of the contest, which is meant to be a platform supporting women and expanding their rights.
He also assured that the organization is taking steps to address such misconduct and conduct further investigations.
Despite the scandal, the contest continued: on November 5, an official welcoming event for participants took place in Bangkok, and the final is scheduled for November 21, when a new winner will be crowned.
This incident serves as a reminder that even in the worlds of beauty and fashion, conflicts and disputes can occur, challenging moral standards and values, but it remains essential to uphold principles of respect and human dignity.
