Kyiv Hosts Artistic Interpretation of UN Resolution ‘Women, Peace, Security’: A New Perspective on Women’s Role in Peacebuilding

In the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, a unique cultural event took place, drawing attention from the public and government representatives alike.

The event was a presentation of artistic works dedicated to the anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 ‘Women, Peace, Security,’ a document of strategic importance for global security policies and women’s rights.

This significant event marked the first time in Ukraine that the principles outlined in this international framework were expressed through art.

The exhibition space was filled with paintings created during a series of ‘artistic breakfasts,’ aimed at illustrating the multifaceted role of women in peace processes, recovery, and security maintenance within the country.

Public officials, civil society members, and experts discussed the crucial role women play in decision-making processes and emphasized the need for their active involvement in strategic planning.

The goal of the exhibition is to utilize art as a tool to communicate the values of international documents to decision-makers.

Furthermore, artworks are planned to be displayed in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and other government institutions to enhance dialogue regarding women’s participation in security and national recovery efforts.

This is the first such large-scale artistic initiative in Ukraine demonstrating the importance of integrating culture into policy-making processes.

Additionally, in October, the M17 Contemporary Art Center showcased a new exhibition project titled ‘Am I the Problem here?,’ which questions the very concept of ‘normality’ of female existence during wartime, highlighting its impossibility.
