Carrot Prices in Ukraine Rise Amid Increased Demand and Cold Spring

Chas Pravdy - 01 November 2025 08:28

In Ukraine, there has been a significant increase in the prices of one of the key vegetables in the traditional borscht set – carrots.

Over the past week, the cost of this popular vegetable has grown by an average of 12 percent, driven by unusual weather conditions and seasonal delays.

Experts from the EastFruit project report that the cold spring has caused a later harvest, which in turn has stimulated more active trading and consumer interest.

Currently, carrot prices range from 0.17 to 0.31 USD per kilogram depending on quality and availability.

Major market players explain the price hike by increased trading activity and note that many farmers are temporarily withholding high-quality roots, expecting prices to rise further.

As a result, the offer of carrots on the market has somewhat decreased.

Despite the price increase, analysts point out that the current prices are still about 54% lower than during the same period last year, providing some context for market trends.

Market participants suggest that this price rise may be temporary, as farmers might start releasing stored quantities to meet demand, which could lead to a stabilization or even reduction in prices.

Additionally, farmers are preparing for seasonal fluctuations, including upcoming rises in potato prices, which are crucial for Ukraine’s food market.
