Artistic Dialogue and Love: Kyiv Hosts a Unique Exhibition of Gorskaya and Zaretsky’s Works
In Kyiv, at the Lviv Art Gallery «Mytets», an exceptional exhibition has opened, uniting graphic works of two prominent Ukrainian artists — Alla Gorskaya and Viktor Zaretsky.
This is the first exhibition showcasing pieces from leading private collections, many of which were previously unseen by the public.
The exhibition spans from the 1960s to the 1980s and offers insight not only into artistic experiments but also into the historical context of the time.
Alla Gorskaya, a distinguished representative of the Sixtiers movement, conveyed freedom of art, civic ideas, and internal energy filled with symbolism through her works.
Viktor Zaretsky, a founder of Ukrainian neoclassicism, is known for his unique style where decorative elements merge with deep philosophical undertones; his monochrome works captivate viewers with their form and color complexity.
The exposition exemplifies the synergy between the two creative worlds: their graphic works create an artistic dialogue that emphasizes the richness and depth of 20th-century Ukrainian art.
The exhibition’s significance lies in the fact that these graphics are presented not as sketches but as autonomous art pieces, crafted with the same dedication as large oil canvases.
Visitors also have the opportunity to learn more about the personal relationships of the couple, which became an essential part of Ukraine’s art history.
During the opening, a new monograph dedicated to Viktor Zaretsky was announced, authored by art critic Olesya Avramenko.
Based on extensive research, archival materials, interviews with colleagues of the artist, and personal meetings in 1987–1990, the book promises to be a valuable resource for understanding his artistic phenomenon and Ukraine’s art life in the second half of the 20th century.
Earlier, it was reported that Kyiv hosted an exhibition dedicated to Ukrainian avant-garde, highlighting a keen interest in contemporary Ukrainian culture and history.
