Mass Children Poisoning in a Summer Camp in Lviv Region: Consequences and Investigations

Chas Pravdy - 05 August 2025 10:36

In the Lviv region, at the popular children’s camp Friendly Camp located in the picturesque town of Slavsko, a large-scale incident involving acute intestinal infection occurred, causing mass poisoning among children and significant health concerns.

Preliminary reports indicate that, as a result of this incident, 24 children aged 7 to 17 were hospitalized in hospitals in Striy, Drohobych, and Skole.

Information from the regional Emergency Situations Department reveals that children aged 9 to 12 also sought medical help the day before, presenting symptoms consistent with acute intestinal infection.

Medical professionals assess the current condition of the affected children as moderate severity, with further updates expected soon.

The police of the Lviv region have opened a criminal case under the article concerning violations of sanitary norms that led to mass poisoning and infectious diseases.

While the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation, initial data suggests that the children’s food intake was a factor, though detailed circumstances are yet to be clarified.

The regional infectious disease hospital reports that currently 25 individuals are hospitalized, with investigations ongoing to determine the precise causes.

Services responsible for health and sanitation are reviewing the camp’s menu and hygiene conditions, but official comments from Friendly Camp’s administration are unavailable as their contact numbers are turned off or inaccessible.

The director of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Natalia Ivanchenko-Timko, added that 25 people have been hospitalized as a result of the incident, and law enforcement continues their inquiry.

Notably, in Rivne, at a local high school, 72 children also suffered from poisoning.

At this stage, it is unclear what food or other factors caused these outbreaks.

All hospitalized children are receiving treatment at hospitals in Lviv, Drohobych, Skole, and Striy.

Medical staff emphasize that the condition of the affected children remains moderate, with positive dynamics observed.

The investigation is focused on identifying violations of sanitary rules and pinpointing the specific causes of poisoning.

In July, a similar mass poisoning incident occurred at the “Chinese Greeting” restaurant in Lviv, where all victims had eaten egg cheesecake, and some staff were diagnosed with salmonellosis.

Authorities have pledged to thoroughly investigate these cases and strengthen food safety controls to prevent such incidents in the future.
