The Complete Guide to Remote Sick Leave Issuance for Pregnancy and Childbirth During Wartime in Ukraine

Chas Pravdy - 25 July 2025 06:22

The issue of obtaining sick leave due to pregnancy and childbirth has become highly relevant for Ukrainian women, especially those abroad or unable to visit healthcare facilities physically due to wartime conditions.
In Ukraine, insured women have the possibility to secure such leave remotely, thanks to modern technologies and legislative regulations.
The Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Luhansk region clarified that, during the wartime and for three months afterward, medical conclusions concerning pregnancy and childbirth can be issued without a physical examination, utilizing electronic communication tools.
This means women can communicate remotely with their doctors through consultations, questionnaires, or information exchange, resulting in an official record in the Medical Records Registry.
The procedure for forming these documents is established by the Ministry of Health and allows for the creation of medical conclusions even when the woman is abroad or in transitional conditions.
It is crucial that the sick leave, particularly for pregnant women abroad, is based solely on medical documents duly issued and verified, along with remote applications through electronic communication means.
This process enables Ukrainian women to receive necessary assistance regardless of their location, even if they are outside the country’s borders — emphasize the Pension Fund officials.
Remember, the aid for pregnancy and childbirth can only be assigned if the application is submitted within six calendar months from the end of the maternity leave.
These innovations illustrate how technological advancements and legislative adjustments are paving the way for enhanced social protection for Ukrainian women during these challenging wartime circumstances.
