Drones over Europe: Temporary Munich airport closure due to unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles

Chas Pravdy - 19 October 2025 14:23

Last Saturday evening, Munich Airport was temporarily shut down following reports of unidentified drones in the sky.

Initially, several witnesses including airport staff observed suspicious objects, raising security concerns.

However, after thorough police checks, no military or technical threats were identified, allowing the airport to resume operations.

The disruption affected three flights: two were rerouted and later landed safely in Munich, while one flight was canceled.

The airport reopened at midnight, and air traffic returned to normal the following day.

Authorities noted that the drone sightings lasted for about two hours, causing brief inconveniences for travelers.

Official reports confirm that the situation is under control, and there is no immediate threat to public safety.

Multiple security personnel and airport staff reported noticing the objects around 10:00 PM local time, with sightings persisting for another half hour before the drones disappeared.

Earlier, NATO intelligence agencies allegedly linked these incidents to secret services from the UK, intensifying diplomatic discussions.

Meanwhile, in France, a Russian ‘shadow fleet’ tanker has been detained and is due to face trial in February on charges of refusing crew cooperation with authorities.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed concerns that the vessel might be connected to the flights of unidentified drones over Denmark and across Europe, raising alarms about potential covert operations and international security risks.
