Trump prepares for a potential meeting with Kim Jong-un amid international diplomacy
In the upcoming weeks, the U.S.
administration is exploring the possibility of arranging the first official face-to-face encounter between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in several years.
According to CNN, this could become the fourth personal meeting between the two political figures and the first during Trump’s second term in office.
In August, Trump expressed his desire to meet with Kim Jong-un within that year.
This statement was made during South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s visit to the White House, where the American leader emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts concerning North Korea.At the end of autumn, Trump plans to travel to Asia to participate in two major summits: the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia and the APEC Summit in South Korea.
A brief stop in Japan is also expected.
However, sources indicate that logistical preparations for these events are still underway, as priority is currently given to negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, amid rising trade tensions between Beijing and Washington.
High-ranking officials are not rushing with concrete logistical plans, focusing instead on diplomatic talks with China.Notably, the U.S.
Secretary of the Treasury has expressed confidence that the meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping will happen soon.
Similarly, Kim Jong-un has also shown readiness to meet Trump again.
He recently shared positive recollections of his previous meeting with the U.S.
president and sees potential for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Moreover, Trump has announced plans to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, marking his second encounter with the Russian president.
These diplomatic initiatives aim to stabilize the international situation and mitigate risks of regional escalation.
