Trump on Tomahawk Missiles: We Have Plenty, But They Are Necessary for the US
Former US President Donald Trump recently emphasized that, despite the large stockpiles of missile weapons, including the Tomahawk systems, the military strength of the country must not be diminished because of the need to ensure US security and defense effectiveness.
In a press conference at the White House on October 16, Trump stated that although the US has many, these weapons are absolutely essential.
“We need these missiles to protect the United States.
We have a lot of them, but we can’t afford to reduce our defense capabilities,” he said.
The president also shared details about talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which he described as respectful and productive.
Trump inquired about the possibility of providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, a question he found somewhat humorous but aimed at understanding Moscow’s stance.
He announced that his upcoming meeting with Putin in Hungary is expected to happen soon, probably within two weeks, and that during this period, several important diplomatic meetings are planned.
Senator Marco Rubio is also scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, signaling an intensification of diplomatic efforts to resolve international issues.
Following recent phone conversations between Trump and Putin, both leaders plan to meet in Budapest to discuss security and cooperation matters.
The prospect of supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine remains a hot topic, with Moscow warning that such weapons are unlikely to change the battlefield dynamics but could damage US-Russia relations, adding to existing global tensions.
