Global Coffee Prices Reach New Records Amid Climate and Economic Challenges

The global coffee industry is experiencing an unprecedented surge in prices, marking the highest levels in recent years.

According to international analytical sources, coffee prices have risen by 20% compared to last year, with August standing out as the month of peak prices since August 2024.

Major contributors to this increase include severe climatic changes, particularly prolonged droughts in Brazil, one of the world’s leading coffee producers, reduced yields in Colombia, and rising import tariffs in the United States, which complicate imports and increase end-product costs.

Experts argue that declining harvests and rising logistics expenses have already impacted coffee prices in cafes and stores worldwide.

In August, U.S.

President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on coffee imports from South America, citing the need to protect domestic markets from foreign competition.

Concurrently, abnormal heatwaves caused nearly a 15% decrease in Brazilian coffee production, intensifying price volatility.

Global coffee reserves have fallen to their lowest levels in a decade, heightening risks of further price escalation.

Industry specialists warn that high prices are likely to remain stable until the end of the year, affecting consumer and retail market pricing.

Data from the International Coffee Organization shows that the average Arabica price in September reached $2.45 per pound, supported by logistical issues and increased fertilizer costs in Latin America.

Meanwhile, forecasts in the U.S.

indicate that rising coffee prices may become a primary inflation driver in October reports.

Notably, after Trump imposed a 50% tariff on goods from Brazil, China swiftly adjusted its trade strategies, strengthening economic ties with the largest coffee supplier globally.

This dynamic influences not only market prices but also geopolitical relations, shaping the future landscape of worldwide coffee trade.
